
Soccer falls 2-1 Sunday at Northwestern State

Sarah Sadler and Melodie Johnson scored the Demons' goals. Sadler tallied from 15 yards out in the 27th minute and Johnson banged in the match-winner on a breakaway in the 67th minute.
Tricia Mallory scored from the top of the box in the 53rd minute to tie the match 1-1. The goal was the freshman's seventh of the season. Mallory is now two goals away from tying the school mark for most goals by a freshman set by Kirby Zak who totaled nine last year.
Sam Houston, now 5-7-1 for the season, out-shot Northwestern State 12-9. Mallory and Kelsi Brown each had three shots and Paige Rodriguez and Natalie Johnson both fired two shots.
Jenny Pence saved seven of the nine shots that came her came.
The loss gave Sam Houston a split on its first Southland Conference road swing of 2010. The Bearkats defeated Central Arkansas 3-2 Friday night.
Next action for the Sam Houston soccer team will be a home stand this weekend. The Bearkats play host to McNeese State on Friday at 7 p.m. and Lamar Sunday at 1 p.m. Both contests will be played at Pritchett Field.
