UTA downs Kat volleyballers in four games

Huntsville - Amanda Aguilera totaled 17 kills and Christy Driscoll totaled nine blocks to lead UT-Arlington to a four-set Southland Conference women's volleyball victory over Sam Houston Saturday at Johnson Coliseum.

The Mavericks rallied after dropping the first set for a 22-25 25-19 28-26 25-21 victory.

Carli Kolbe led Sam Houston with 18 kills. Haley Neisler added 12 kills.

UTA upped its record to 12-14 for the season while Sam Houston fell to 12-15. The two teams are tied in Southland Conference play, both with 6-6 records. The victory for the Mavs avenged a five-set loss to Sam Houston in Arlington two weeks ago.

During the four sets, the score was tied 30 times. However, in both the third and fourth set the Mavericks built big leads then fought off a late Sam Houston charge.

Sam Houston totaled 58 kills as a team and produced 13 blocks. Neisler, Kym Loving and Kim Black each participated in five blocks for the Kats. Loving also was credited with 52 assists. Liberto Kaylee Hawkins totaled 28 digs.

UTA produced 54 kills and 14 blocks. Aguilera had a hands in six blocks.
