Sunday's results combined with a 2-0 Stephen F. Austin victory over UTSA in Nacogdoches put Texas State as the No. 4 seed and Sam Houston as the No. 5 seed. The Bearkats end the regular season with a 9-10-1 record while Texas State stands 11-7-1.
The Bobcats totaled 16 standings points with a 5-3-1 Southland mark (three points for a victory and one for a tie) while Sam Houston posted 15 with its 5-4 league record.
Kelsey Bernard, Kendell Webber, Felicia Leask and Britney Curry each scored for Texas State while Lindsey Posner provided the lone goal for the Bearkats.
Bernard scored off a corner kick by Sydney Curry in the 26th minute. Posner intercepted a pass outside the 18-yard box and one-timed a floater into the back off the Bobcat net to tie the score with four minutes remaining in the first half.
Just a minute and three seconds later, Webber put Texas State ahead to stay, scoring on a header after taking a cross at the far post from Ashley Gowda on the left wing.
Leask scored off a deflected shot in the 68th minute and Curry, the Southland's leading scorer, posted her 13th goal of the season in the 83rd minute.
The No. 3 seed will face the No. 6 seed at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday with No. 4 Texas State meeting No. 5 UTSA at 7 p.m. The No. 1 seed will meet the No. 4-5 winner and the No. 2 seed will face the No. 3-6 winner in the semifinals on Friday night. The championship game, which will decide the Southland's representative in the NCAA tournament, will be played at 2 p.m. Sunday.
