
Women's soccer faces McNeese Friday at 7 p.m.

Two of the four unbeaten teams in the league standings visit Huntsville in the next three days.
McNeese State is the opponent Friday night at 7 p.m. The Cowgirls tied Southeastern Louisiana 1-1 and defeated Nicholls 3-0 last week. McNeese and Stephen F. Austin are tied for third place in the Southland.
First place Lamar comes to Pritchett Field Sunday afternoon for a 1 p.m. contest. The Cardinals are 2-0 in Southland action.
Sam Houston is tied for fifth place in the league standings with a victory and a loss. The Bearkats defeated Central Arkansas in Conway 3-2 last Friday but fell to Northwestern State 2-1 on Sunday in Natchitoches.
"Obviously, this is an important weekend for us," Sam Houston head coach Tom Brown said. "We're disappointed about the loss at Northwestern State. We had several opportunities in the match but failed to capitalize. We need to bounce back and have a good effort this weekend at home."
Sam Houston stands 5-7-1 for the season, having won three of the team's last four matches. McNeese enters Friday's contest with a 4-7-1 overall mark. The Cowgirls have three victories and a tie in their last five outings.
Two of the Southland's top goalkeepers will be anchoring their squad's defenses Friday.
Senior Jenny Pence of Sam Houston leads the league in saves with 75 and Cassandra Reed of McNeese is second with 74. Pence ranks fifth in the league in goals against average (5.77).
Bearkat freshman Tricia Mallory stands third in goal scoring in the Southland Conference. Her seven goals this season stand as the third highest scoring total ever by a Sam Houston freshman.
Johna Germany and Audrey LaLanne of McNeese are tied for 10th in scoring in the league, both with four goals this eason.
Kelsi Brown, Emily Edenstrom, Kirby Zak and Amanda Biega all have scored two goals for Sam Houston this fall. Anchoring the backline for the Bearkats have been Carly Rheman, Lindsey Posner and Nicole Watkins.
McNeese State leads the all-time soccer series with Sam Houston five victories to three. The Bearkats have won in the last two meetings with a 3-0 shutout in Huntsville in 2008 and a 2-1 victory at Lake Charles last year.
