Corpus Christi - Led by Kaylee Hawkins and Carli Kolbe, Sam Houston State defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 23-25 25-10 25-14 25-20 for an important road victory in Southland Conference women's volleyball.
Hawkins totaled 17 kills while Kolbe produced 16 kills and 24 digs. Kym Loving also produced 13 kills and 33 assists.
The victory ups Sam Houston to 13-16 for the year and 7-7 in Southland Conference action as the Kats head into the final week of regular season play.
Emma Ridley led the Islanders with 16 kills. Sam Houston produced 69 winners as a team while A&M-Corpus Christi totaled 55.
Kim Black produced eight kills. Haley Neisler and Black led the Bearkats in blocks with six apiece.
Sam Houston will play host to Lamar on Thursday night and McNeese State on Saturday at Johnson Coliseum to end the regular season. The Southland Conference post-season tournament will be hosted by SHSU on Friday, Nov. 19 through Sunday Nov. 21.
The first 200 Sam Houston students wearing orange to enter Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum on Thursday night, November 11 for the Bearkat volleyball match vs. Lamar each will receive a free t-shirt.
