Huntsville - Josten Crow scored 24 points and totaled 10 assists while Gilberto Clavell added 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as Sam Houston handed North Texas a 94-74 loss in a non-conference men's basketball game at Johnson Coliseum.
Marcus Williams and Nafis Richardson added 17 and 16 points, respectively, for the Bearkats.
Kedrick Hogans led North Texas (7-2) with 19 points. The defeat ended a five-game winning streak for the Mean Green.
Sam Houston (5-2) led from wire to wire, leading 44-36 at halftime and outscoring the Mean Green 48-38 in the second period.
The Bearkats seldom missed, going 36-of-63 from the field for their best shooting percentage of the season (57.1). Sam Houston hit 53 percent from the field in the first half and 61 percent in the second.
Crow alone was 9-for-14 from the field with four three-point field goals. Clavell hit 7-of-11.
The Bearkat defense forced 15 North Texas turnovers and scored 20 points off the miscues.
Sam Houston outscored the Mean Green 50-40 in the paint.
North Texas pulled to within six points, 67-61 with 7:44 to play, but could get no closer as the Bearkats outscored them 25-13 in the final seven minutes.
Both the Sam Houston men's and women's teams will be in action Saturday afternoon at Johnson Coliseum. The women play host to Houston Baptist at 1 p.m. The men follow with a contest against Cleveland State at 3:30 p.m.
