HOUSTON - After knocking off Kansas 8-0 in their first game, the Bearkat softball team has faced three outstanding pitchers and come away with only eight hits in their last 21 innings.

Friday night Baylor one-hit Sam Houston in an 8-0 shutout and Saturday morning Ohio State right-hander Megan Miller limited the Kats to two singles in a 6-0 Buckeye win. Kansas bounced back to shut out Sam Houston 10-0 in Saturday's second game.

SHSU is playing in the Marriott Cougar Softball Classic hosted by the University of Houston. The Kats will play Houston at 3 p.m. Sunday in their final action in the event.

Against Ohio State, Amy Brown singled in the first inning and Hailey Wiginton singled in the third for SHSU's only hits. The Kats got runners to second base twice but couldn't score. Sam Houston went three-up, three-down in the final four innings.

Ohio State (2-1) rocked Bearkat pitcher Morgan Mikulin for two home runs and three doubles, totaling 10 hits overall.

Allie Clark blasted a three-run home run in the fifth inning to break open a 1-0 defensive struggle to power Kansas to the victory. The Jayhawks totaled 10 hits.

Wiginton, Kim Damian, Brown, Calli Wood and Erin Burford all accounted for hits in the loss to KU.

The Bearkats face Texas A&M in their home opener at the Bearkat Softball Complex Wednesday at 4 p.m.
