Baseball drops double header 10-6 and 3-2

HUNTSVILLE - A three-run home run by first baseman Mark Moorman sparked a five-run ninth inning for Utah as the Utes defeated Sam Houston 10-6 in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday at Don Sanders Stadium.

Utah took the nightcap as well by a 3-2 margin.

The first game was tied three times with three lead changes. Utah totaled its 10 runs on 15 hits and three Bearkat errors while Sam Houston totaled 10 hits.

Third baseman Nick Kuroczko led the Utah (4-2) at the plate going 4-for-5 with one RBI. Catcher C. J. Cron went 3-for-5 with an RBI and Moorman led all hitters with four RBIs.

Catcher Doug Olney's three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning gave Sam Houston a 5-4 lead. Utah tied the game 5-5 with a run in the top of the eighth.

Bearkat start Paul Spinn spread 10 hits over seven and one third innings, leaving the game in the eighth with a one-run lead. Matt Shelton took the loss in relief.

Nick Kuroczko's solo home run and an RBI single by Austin Shackelford provided the winning runs for Utah in the third inning of the second game.

Bryan Card was the winning pitcher in the nightcap, spreading seven hits over six and a third innings. Andrew Massey took the loss for the Bearkats.

The two teams meet in the final contest of the four-game series at 1 p.m. Sunday
