
High scoring Bearkat trio named to NABC All-District squad

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (March 16, 2010) ‐‐ Sam Houston State's Ashton Mitchell, Corey Allmond and Gilberto Clavell all have been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All District XXIII men's basketball team for 2010.
In addition, Bob Marlin was named as NABC District XXIII coach of the year.
Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, a total of 240 student‐athletes from 24 districts have been selected as All-District for their respective areas. Each of the honorees is eligible to be selected for the State Farm Division I All‐America teams, to be announced on Saturday, April 3, at 11 a.m. (EDT) during the NABC Convention at the NCAA Final Four.
Mitchell and Allmond, both seniors, and Clavell, junior, led Sam Houston a 25-8 record, the Bearkats' most victories in one season in their 23 years of NCAA Division I competition.
Sam Houston won both the Southland Conference regular season and post-season tournament titles to advance to the NCAA Regionals at New Orleans where the Kats threw a scare into No. 3 seed Baylor before falling in a hard-fought struggle.
The three Bearkats each averaged in double figures as part of the highest scoring Sam Houston team in the program's NCAA Division I history. Each was named as an All-Southland Conference selection as well.
Mitchell was an All-District XXIII selection along with Anatoly Bose of Nicholls, Marques Haynes of UT-Arlington, Kevin Palmer of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Patrick Sullivan of Southeastern Louisiana.
Allmond and Clavell were second team selections, joining DeAndre Hall of Texas Southern, Darnell Hugee of Prairie View A&M and Garrison Johnson of Jackson State.
Located in Kansas City, Mo., the NABC was founded in 1927. The NABC currently claims nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches.
All members of the NABC are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today's student-athletes.
The four core values of being a Guardian of the Game are advocacy, leadership, service and education.
