Thibodaux, La - Sam Houston State won all three doubles pro sets and took five of the six singles matches to roll to a 6-1 Southland Conference women's tennis dual match victory over Nicholls Saturday afternoon.
Federica Denti, Tatyana Postnikova and Sheridan Currie all won in straight sets at number one, three and four singles. Giorgia Pozzan had to go three sets to win at the number two position. Nadia Dubyanskaya split sets at number five and won a super tiebreaker for the third set.
Denti and Pozzan paired to defeat Florina Nosca and Natalia Zamora at number one doubles 8-7. Dubyanskaya and Postnikova won 8-5 at number two and Currie and Cally Woerner posted a similar score to take the number three doubles.
"Nicholls is a much improved team. We had some very competitive matches today," Sam Houston head coach Jim Giachino said. "We're looking for another challenging match tomorrow."
The Sam Houston tennis team continues is road trip through southern Louisiana Sunday with an 11 a.m. dual match in Hammond against Southeastern Louisiana.
