Central Arkansas completes sweep with 8-3 victory

Huntsville - Centerfield Michael Pair went 4-for-6 with 4 RBIs including a double and a home run to lead Central Arkansas to an 8-3 Southland Conference baseball victory over Sam Houston State Sunday afternoon at Don Sanders STadium.

The victory gave the Bears a three-game sweep of SHSU and ended Sam Houston's hopes for a berth in the Southland Conference post season tournament.

Pair hit a two-run double in the three-run second inning for UCA and added a two-run homer in the fourth inning. Pinch hitter Clay Washington and second baseman Jorden Getchell also had home runs for the Bears.

Mark Hudson hit a solo home run for Sam Houston in the second inning and added another RBI with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning.   Michael Wild (6-8) was the winning pitcher in relief for Central Arkansas. Paul Spinn (2-7) was the loser for SHSU.

"We gave it our best shot," SHSU head coach Mark Johnson said. "Our confidence is not high. The opposition gave us their best stuff.  We had some guys play well individually but we are not putting it together."

Central Arkansas now stands 18-32-1 for the season and 9-20-1 in Southland action.   Sam Houston is 17-35 for the year and 9-21 in Southland play.

Designated hitter Chris Andreas extended his current hitting streak to 23 games by going 3-for-5 with one RBI for Sam Houston.

Sunday was "Senior Day" at Don Sanders Stadium with the Bearkats' two seniors Jared Wondra and Taylor Davis being honored in a pre-game ceremony.
