
Twins select Dallas Gallant in 23rd round

Sam Houston State pitcher Dallas Gallant heard his name called on the second day of the Major League Baseball draft on Tuesday. Gallant, a junior from Trinity, was selected in the 23rd round, No. 705 overall, by the Minnesota Twins.
This past season, Gallant was 3-8 with a 4.82 ERA. He worked a team-high 84 innings, leading the Kats with 78 strikeouts while notching a pair of complete games. Gallant threw a complete-game two-hitter to lead the Bearkats to a 7-1 victory over McNeese State. In that game he struck out six against two walks, to earn Southland Conference pitcher of the week honors.
This past summer Gallant pitched in the prestigious Cape Cod League where he was named to the All-Star team which played at Fenway Park.
He pitched in 15 games as a sophomore with nine starts in 2009, producing a 4-4 record with wins coming over Creighton, Houston, Houston Baptist and Southeastern Louisiana. He struck out seven in relief against Northwestern State and held Southeastern Louisiana in four hits in six innings in Southland tournament semifinals win
Gallant was an All-Southland Conference honorable mention selection as true freshman, posting a 7-1 record in league play and 9-4 record for the season. He had a 4.98 earned run average, pitching in 21 games with 11 starts and three complete games. In the SLC Tournament, he earned All-Tournament honors as winning pitcher in two of Sam Houston's four victories.
Gallant is the 36th Bearkat selected in the Major League Baseball Draft and the fifth under head coach Mark Johnson. It is the fifth straight year the Bearkats have had a player selected and 10th in the last 10 years.
