Four Kats named to NABC Honor Court

Four Sam Houston State basketball players were honored on Tuesday for not what they do on the court, but their achievements in the classroom.
The National Association of Basketball Coaches recognized Gilberto Clavell, Lance Pevehouse, Josten Crow and Preston Brown, naming them to the NABC Honor Court. To be a member of the NABC Honor Court, player must be a junior or senior and have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better.
Clavell, a 6-4 junior from Puerto Rico, is a kinesiology major. He was the leading scorer and rebounder for the Bearkats this past season, his first with the Kats. He was a first-team all-Southland selection and was also named the league's Newcomer of the Year.
Brown, a 6-6 senior forward from Stringtown, Ok., is a kinesiology major. He also earned ESPN The Magazine / CoSIDA Academic All-District first team honors this year as well as Southland Conference first-team all-academic. Brown was fourth for Sam Houston's 2010 Southland Conference men's basketball team in scoring with an 8.6 average and totaled 5.3 rebounds per game.
Crow, a 6-4 junior forward from Houston Westfield, is a business major. He was also a second team Southland all-academic selection. He finished the season No. 1 in the Southland and No. 2 in NCAA Division I men's basketball in assist/turnover ratio (3.3). He was No. 4 in the Southland in assists and in the top 10 in the league in steals. A starter all year, he averaged 8.1 points and 5.8 rebounds for the Southland Conference champions.
Pevehouse, a 6-2 junior guard from League City, is a business management major. Pevehouse was the hero of the Kats in the Southland tournament in Katy with his crucial tip-in in the Nicholls win and a big 3-pointer to spark a late comeback in the Southeastern Louisiana comeback victory. Pevehouse averaged 6.0 points and 4.1 rebounds for the Bearkat squad that earned Sam Houston its second NCAA "Big Dance" berth. He was a second team all-Southland academic selection.
