The association will travel to Floyd Casey Stadium in Waco for Sam Houston's season opener with the Baylor Bears of the Big 12 Saturday Sept. 4.
Pregame tailgating will be held from 4 p.m. to kickoff at 6 p.m.
"If you are a sports fan, you know the road games are the toughest to win," director of alumni relations Charlie Vienne said. "That's why it's so important for Bearkat fans to support their team on the road. The alumni association is excited to have the opportunity to help generate greater Bearkat attendance at away games to help level the playing field for our team."
Tickets to the tailgate are $10 per person, which will provide Bearkat fans with fajitas and two drink tickets. The Baylor tailgate is sponsored by alumni Sammy Cintrano, Jim and Judy Haller, Bud Haney, John and Nancy Hoyt and Larry Lynch.
Reservation deadline is Sept. 2.
Other out-of-town tailgate parties will be held at the Sam Houston versus Lamar contest in Beaumont on Saturday Oct. 2 and the "Battle of the Piney Woods" showdown with Stephen F. Austin at Reliant Stadium in Houston on Saturday Oct. 23.
"There's nothing like seeing a bunch of orange shirts in the stands and hearing the crowd yell when our young football team comes on the field," Sam Houston head coach Willie Fritz said. "Tailgating at football games is a tremendous experience and it really helps our program. We hope as many fans as are able will make the trips to Waco, Beaumont and especially Houston for the SFA game."
For more information or to make reservations for the tailgate parties, contact the Office of Alumni Relations at (800) 283-7478 or online at http://alumni.shsu.edu .
"The alumni association is reaching out to alumni, students and friends of the university to bring everyone together for one common cause, their love of Sam Houston State and support of the Bearkats," Vienne said. "We want to provide a family atmosphere with high energy and excitement for individuals of all ages."
Tailgate parties will be held at each and every Sam Houston State home game at Bowers Stadium in 2010. The fun begins on Saturday Sept. 25 when the Kats play their home opener against the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs. Special events that night include special displays honoring Hillcrest Heroes -- the members of Huntsville's police and fire departments -- plus an appearance by the Houston Texans cheerleaders and, following the game, a fireworks display.
To purchase tickets to Bearkat football games, go to the Sam Houston athletic ticket page or come by the Bearkat Athletic Ticket office located in the Ron Mafrige Field House at Bowers Stadium. Ticket office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The ticket office telephone is (936) 294-1729.
