HUNTSVILLE - The Sam Houston State soccer team dropped a hard fought game to Baylor on Friday night 2-0 at Pritchett Field.
Baylor struck for a goal in each half, with Karlee Summey notching one in the 28th minute and Dana Larson adding one in the 63rd minute.
Summey managed to break loose on a ball cleared out of Baylor's defensive end and drilled it home past a diving Jenny Pence. Larson scored on a high arching shot that drifted over the outstretched hand of Pence.
"You see a difference between the Big 12 and the Southland," head coach Tom Brown said. "I think our players did a good job of battling out here. I think this was our toughest opponent we will face this year. I think we handled the pressure tonight and can take some positives moving forward."
The Bears outshot SHSU 14-5. Pence had four saves and Baylor keeper Courtney Seelhorst recorded three.
The Bearkats will be back in action on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Grambling at Pritchett Field.
