
Bowling battles at Big Red Invitational

Competition begins Thursday at the Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln. Each team will participate in three four-game baker matches set to begin at 6:25 p.m.
On Friday at 11:30 a.m., the participants will battle in four traditional team game matches. The first two days' results will set the bracket for Saturday's finals competition in whch teams will decide the tournament championship winner with four of seven baker matches.
Eight of the squads entered in the Big Red Invitational hold NCAA Division I national ranking including six top 10 squads.
The Invitational field consists of No. 1 Maryland-Eastern Shore, No. 3 Nebraska, No. 4 Central Missouri, No. 5 Sam Houston, No. 6 Arkansas State, No. 12 Vanderbilt and No. 13 Valapariso along with unranked Bethune-Cookman and Elmhurst.
Sam Houston brings an overall season record of 36 wins and 18 losses into the competition. The Bearkats are 16-4 in five-person team games, 11-9 in five-set quad matches and 7-5 in baker best of 7 format encounters.
Top individual pin averages for the Kats include Dayna Galganski (198.5 in 22 matches), Neshka Cardona (184.2 in 18 matches) and Lisa Cummins (183.1 in 13 matches) and Lisa MacAllister (213.8 in 6 matches).
Sam Houston has defeated each of the nationally-ranked teams in the Big Red Invitational at least once this year. In the Bearkats' trip to Arkansas for the Mid-Winter Invitational hosted by Arkansas State, SHSU posted wins over Vanderbilt, Nebraska and Valapraiso.
