Riley, Andreas named preseason All-Southland

Sam Houston State has been predicted to finish seventh and Texas State is favored to win its third consecutive Southland Conference regular-season baseball championship by a vote of the league's head coaches, the league office has announced.
The Bobcats received nine first-place votes and 118 points in the poll. Texas State returns 20 lettermen, six starters and 12 pitchers. Sam Houston State received 61 points in the voting to rank seventh in the preseason poll.
Two Bearkat seniors, infielder Brandon Riley and designated hitter Chris Andreas, were first team preseason All-Southland Conference selections.
Riley is a two-time All-Southland Conference selection. He led the league in total hits each of the past two years with 91 as a junior in 2010 and a Southland Conference and school record 111 in 2009. The senior needs 48 more hits to become the Bearkats all-time leader in total career .
Andreas was a first team all-league selection and winner for Bearkat team "Hitter of the Year" award in 2010. He led the Kats and ranked fourth in the Southland Conference with a .376 batting average, totaling 79 hits with 15 doubles, one triple and seven home runs.
Opening day of the Southland season is Feb. 18 with the Bearkats traveling to New Orleans for a three-game weekend series with Tulane. Opening day at Don Sanders Stadium for Bearkat baseball is Tuesday, Feb. 22.
Southland Conference play begins March 6.The Southland Conference tournament will be played May 25-28 at the Bobcat Baseball Stadium in San Marcos, Texas.
