Erin Burford named preseason All-Southland

The head coaches tabbed Sam Houston ninth in the preseason poll.
Texas State received 92 points in the coaches' poll and 93 points in the SID poll. One of three teams to win three consecutive regular-season conference titles, the Bobcats received 10 first-place votes overall with five first-place marks in each poll.
Sam Houston junior outfielder Erin Burford was named as a second team selection on the 2011 preseason All-Southland honor squad. Burford was a third team All-Southland performer as a sophomore. She hit .318 in Southland Conference action and .287 for the season. Burford totaled eight multi-hit performances and three multi-RBI contests during the 2010 season.
Opening day of the Southland season is Feb. 10 with conference play beginning March 1. The conference tournament will be hosted by Sam Houston State in Huntsville, Texas, May 12-14 at the Bearkat Softball Stadium.
