
Tom Brown honored by Golden Hurricanes

In his fourth season at Sam Houston, Brown's Bearkats are playing host to Central Arkansas Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the first of three home matches at Joseph Pritchett Field during the next five days.
Brown was assistant coach for the 1991 Tulsa men's soccer team that won the Missouri Valley Conference regular season and tournament titles and advanced to the NCAA tournament. Brown's Golden Hurricane soccer team, which finished the season with a 14-3 record and a national ranking of No. 17, was named as this year's university Hall of Fame Honor Team.
Brown moved from Tulsa to become head coach at Sterling College in Kansas (1993 and 1994) and William Carey College in Mississippi (1995 and 1996) before serving 11 seasons as head coach at Angelo State. He became the second head coach in Sam Houston women's soccer program history on June 18, 2008, and has directed the Bearkats to new levels of success.
During Brown's tenure at Sam Hosuton, the Kats have set 22 individual and team school records and earned post-season Southland tournament berths in 2009 and 2010.
Other Golden Hurricane Hall of Fame inductees for 2011 were former Head Football Coach John Cooper, basketball All-American Shea Seals and baseball All-American Mike Sember.
Currently, Brown's Bearkats are battling for their third consecutive Southland post-season berth. The soccer team completes its 2011 regular season home schedule with three matches at Joseph Pritchett Field this week.
Sam Houston plays host to Central Arkansas Wednesday and Nicholls State Friday, both matches at 7 p.m. Sunday the Bearkats face off with Southeastern Louisiana in a 1 p.m. contest.
The Kats will wrap up the regular season with a road match at Stephen F. Austin Friday Oct. 28.
The 2011 Southland Conference women's soccer post-season event will be played Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 3-6, in Natchitoches, La.
