
Bowling Moves Up To No. 5

Valparaiso (30-8) is the number one ranked team. Fairleigh Dickinson (45-12), Sacred Heart of Connecticutt (37-9) and Maryland-Eastern Shore (37-9) follow in the second through fourth positions.
The Bearkat women's bowling team moves from its preseason ranking of No. 7 to No. 5 with a 40-13 record. Sam Houston produced a tournament championship and two third place finishes in major intercollegiate competition during the fall schedule.
Sam Houston ended the fall schedule defeating several ranked opponents to take the trophy at the Track Kat Klash Classic at Huntsville Lanes.
Ranked sixth through 10th in the poll are Vanderbilt (30-13), Central Missouri (26-12), Nebraska (18-6), Arkansas State (27-11) and New Jersey City (24-8).
Stephen F. Austin (25-16) moved from 13th in the preseason up to 11th with a 25-16 record during the fall.
Rounding out the top 20 are Delaware State (30-17), Norfolk State (32-14), Saint Francis (33-14), Kutztown (24-20), Monmouth (26-21), Saint Peter's (32-12), Wisconsin-Whitewater (13-12), Adelphi (32-24) and Saint Francis NY (23-23).
Alabama A&M, Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M, Fayetteville State and Long Island also received votes.
"The team has been able to accomplish a lot this year so far," SHSU head coach Brad Hagen. "The highlight of course was what we were able to do in front of our hometown crowd. This team has the passion and work ethic to do great things next half. As long as we can stay true to ourselves and remain focused, we will get where we want to go."
Next action for the No. 5 ranked Bearkats will be the Arkansas State Mid-Winter Invitational in Jonesboro, Ark., Friday Jan 13 through Sunday Jan. 15.
