With the Sam Houston football making history with its first appearance in the NCAA Divisi to on I Football National Championship on Jan. 7 in Frisco, the Bearkat men's basketball Southland Conference opener with UTSA has been rescheduled for Sunday, Jan. 8.
Tip will be at 1 p.m. Jan.8 at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
The opener originally was scheduled the same day as the national title game. Sam Houston athletic officials have announced that a change would be made.
"Obviously, once the football team won the semifinals game and was playing in the championship, there was a conflict," Bearkat head men's basketball coach Jason Hooten said. "With the change to Sunday, fans will have the opportunity to attend the football game in Frisco and see the opening Southland Conference game for men's basketball here in Huntsville the next day."
Sam Houston State will be seeking a fourth consecutive Southland Conference West Division championship when the Bearkats begin league action with UTSA. The Bearkats will be looking to avenge their loss to the Roadrunners in the semifinals of last year's Southland post-season tournament in Katy.
The Bearkat men play two home games at Johnson Coliseum before league action begins as Sam Houston hosts Samford Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Jarvis Christian Monday January 2 also at 7 p.m.
Tickets for all home Sam Houston men's basketball games are available online at www.gobearkats.com/tickets .
