Arkansas State is unbeaten in 10 matches after going 5-0 in traditional team action Saturday afternoon. The Bearkats are 9-1, their only loss to Arkansas State Saturday.
Arkansas State holds a narrow 47-pin advantage over Sam Houston in total pins, 9,310 to 9,263.
No. 2 ranked Vanderbilt is in third place with a 6-4 match record and 9,169 points. No. 5 Nebraska is in fourth with an 8-2 mark and 8,995 points.
After falling to Arkansas State 1,192-1,145 in Saturday's opening match, the Bearkats rolled to four consecutive wins. Sam Houston defeated Vanderbilt 1,134-1,107, Stephen F. Austin 1,089-1,040, Monmouth 941-873 and Long Island 977-972.
Sam Houston's Michelle Secours led Saturday's single action with a 244.8 average in her five matches. Neishka Cardona was fifth in the tournament individual standings with a 218.2 average.
Stephen F. Austin stands in fifth place heading into Sunday with 8,585 pins, followed by Long Island 8,536, Monmouth 8,445, Louisiana Tech 8,194, Jackson State 7,952, Prairie View A&M 7,923, Texas Southern 7,755, Alabama State 7,658, Grambling State 7,119 and Mississippi Valley State 6,186.
"We put ourselves in position to compete for the tournament title Sunday," Sam Houston head coach Brad Hagen said. "It's going to be an exciting final day."
Bracket play will feature best-of-seven Baker matches. Tournament action begins at 8:30 a.m. Sunday. There is no admission charge.
