New Orleans, La. - For the third game in a row, Sam Houston and Tulane ended their baseball battles this weekend with a 3-2 score. Again Sunday, it was the No. 25 ranked Green Wave that won.
The Bearkats opened the series with a 3-2 victory but Tulane posted the 3-2 scores for wins both Saturday and Sunday.
Designated hitter Chris Andreas put Sam Houston up 2-0 in the fifth inning with a home run to right center. The blast scored second baseman Braeden Riley who had singled.
Starting pitcher Brandon Kimbrel gave up only four hits as he held the Green Wave scoreless for six innings. Michael Ors pitched an inning and two thirds. With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Ors gave up a walk and a single.
Pinch hitter Frank Floria blasted a home run over the center field wall for what proved to be the game winner off reliever Paul Spinn.
The Bearkats had runners reach third base three times in the final three innings. In the eight, Greg Olson doubled, then reached third on a wild pitch. In an attempt to steal home, Olson was thrown out at the plate from second base.
Sam Houston totaled eight hits while Tulane posted six. Riley led the Kats at the plate, going 2-for-5.
The Bearkats play their 2011 home opener Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m., hosting Houston Baptist.
