Bowlers No. 10 in Feb. national rankings

The Bearkats own a 49-26 overall record this season. Since their No. 5 ranking in the December NTCA poll, Sam Houston placed seventh at the Mid-Winter Classic hosted by Arkansas State, sixth at the Nebraska Big Red Classic and won the Florida A&M Rattler Classic. SHSU compiled a 22-12 record in those events. Included among their 34 matches in January and February, the Bearkats posted wins over current top six teams Nebraska, Vanderbilt and Arkansas State.
Fairleigh-Dickinson University of Teaneck, NJ, received 20 out of a possible 24 first place votes to regain the top spot in the poll. The Knights (71-15 this season) were the preseason No. 1 ranked team and were No. 2 in the December voting. FDU won tournament titles at the 28-team Kutztown Invitational and the 15-team DSU Capital City Classic with a 31-6 won-lost mark in those compeitions.
Maryland-Eastern Shore is ranked second. Central Missouri, Nebraska and Vanderbilt complete the top five. Arkansas State, New Jersey City, Kutztown, Sacred Heart and Sam Houston complete the top 10.
The Bearkats have compiled a 13-14 overall record this season against the squads ranked No. 1-9 in this month's poll. That includes at least one win over each of the top six teams in the poll.
Following Sam Houston in the poll are Alabama A&M, Valparaiso, Adelphi, Stephen F. Austin, Saint Francis (NY), Delaware State, Norfolk State, Wisconsin-Whitewater, Saint Peter's and Florida A&M.
The Bearkat bowling team has rolled up a 15-4 mark this season against teams No. 11-20 in the rankings. Sam Houston stands 22-6 against unranked opponents.
Next action for Sam Houston State will be the Holiday Classic in Bessemer, Ala., this weekend Feb. 25-27.
