Bearkat Baseball Invitational

Nebraska defeated Northern Colorado 12-8 in the opening game of this weekend's Bearkat Baseball Invitational Friday.
The Sam Houston baseball team is hosting Nebraska and Northern Colorado at Don Sanders Stadium this weekend.
The tournament is the first of two tournaments at Sam Houston during back-to-back weeks. Michigan and Massachusetts will visit March 4-6.
Both the Cornhuskers and the Bearkats opened their seasons last week. Nebraska went 3-1 in the Bobcat Classic at San Marcos, opening with a 7-2 loss to Texas State then defeating Air Force 8-1, Washington 10-3 and Missouri State 16-4.
Sam Houston enters the tournament with a 2-2 record. The Bearkats defeated No. 25 Tulane 3-2 in their opener last Friday, then dropped a pair of 3-2 losses to the Green Wave before blanking Houston Baptist 13-0 Tuesday.
Northern Colorado will be playing in their first games in the Sam Houston event.

Ryan Mooney (.462) and Mark Hudson (.364) boast the top batting averages on the Bearkat squad through the first four games. Sam Houston has been getting strong pitching, producing a 1.85 team earned run average.
Nebraska produced a hefty .359 team batting average, scoring 36 runs in four games in the San Marcos tournament last week. Outfielder Kale Kiser brings a team-leading .571 batting average in the SHSU event. Infielder Chad Christensen is hitting .474.
Northern Colorado produced a 34-24 overall season record last year. Infielder T. J. Berge is the Bears' top returning hitter with a .391 average last season.
