Women earn All-SLC in four events

The Bearkat women were fifth in the team completion. The meet was held at the University of Oklahoma Mosier Indoor Events Center on OU's 220-yard unbanked track.
Overall, the SHSU men collected six medals including two championships, three runner-up finishes and one third place medal. The women finished as runners-up in two events and third place in two others.
Stephen F. Austin won the women's overall team championship while UTSA took the men's title.
Cralle, a senior, won the weight throw with a Southland Conference and Sam Houston State record throw of 65 feet, 7.75 inches. His teammate Jason Russell was the runner-up with a weight throw of 60 feet, 6.75 inches.
Martinez, Helaire, Hayes and Jones won the 4x440 by one second over Stephen F. Austin. The Bearkats' winning time was 3:17.72.
Hayes finished as the runner-up in the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.29 seconds. Juan Lewis of UTA edge Hayes out at the tape by only .01 seconds.
Matt Johnson was the runner-up in the men's heptathlon with a school record score of 5,563 points. Both Johnson's total and the 5,728 points by event winner Romain Martin of UTA bettered the old Southland meet record of 5,483 points set in 2004.
A J Edwards placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 50 feet, 5.75 inches.
Ty Spiller and Morgan Davis both were runners-up for the Bearkat women. Spiller posted a time of 8.57 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles. Morgan was second in the women's pentathlon with 3,403 points.
The Bearkats 4x440 yard relay of Monika May, Lygia Foreman, Ayanna Magee and Jessica Fisher placed third with a time of 3:50.14. Jenny Zoch was third in the shot put with a throw of 48 feet eight inches.
All Bearkat competitors who placed first, second or third in their respective events earned All Southland Conference honors.
Final men's standings and point totals were UTSA in first with 153 points followed by UTA 111, SFA 105.5, Sam Houston 80, Lamar 46, McNeese State 38, Central Arkansas 37.5, Texas State 34, Southeastern Louisiana 32, Northwestern State 14 and A&M-Corpus Christi 12.
Final women's standings and point totals were Stephen F. Austin in first with 115.5 points followed by UTA 97, UTSA 68, Texas State62.5, Northwestern State and Sam Houston tied for fifth with 55 points, A&M-Corpus Christi 49, Nicholls 46, Lamar 44, Southeastern Louisiana 33, McNeese State 28 and Central Arkansas 10.
