Texas State completed a three-game Southland Conference softball series sweep of Sam Houston with a 7-1 victory over the Kats Sunday afternoon at the Bearkat softball complex.
The Bobcats, now 13-13 for the year and 6-4 in league action, partnered 10 hits with five walks to outscore SHSU while getting another strong pitching performance from Chandler Hall.
After shutting out the Bearkats for 10 innings on Saturday and Sunday, Sam Houston finally touched up Hall for a run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Alex Survant led off the inning with a single, then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Tayler Gray. Sarah Allison's single put Survant on third and Tomi Garrison brought Survant in for the run with a single to left field.
A lead-off double by Jenna Emery and a run-scoring single by Jordan Masek opened the flood gates in the top of the fifth inning for Texas State. The Bobcats rolled up seven runs sparked by two-RBI singles by Haley Lemons and Anna Hernandez.
Shelbi Tucker led Sam Houston at the plate, going 2-for-3. Also posting hits were Brittany Gutierrez, Sarah Allison and Alex Survant.
Garrison (8-9) took the loss in the circle. She surrendered only one hit in the first four innings and struck out two Bobcats before the seven-run fifth inning. Shelby Lancaster pitched the final two innings
Hall upped her season mark in the circle to 7-8 after spreading six hits over six innings. Crystal Alaniz pitched the final inning for the Bobcats.
Next action for the Bearkat softball team will be a Southland Conference three-game series in San Antonio as SHSU takes on UTSA on Saturday and Sunday, March 19 and 20.
The Kats will play a non-conference game Wednesday, March 23, against Texas A&M in College Station. Next home action for Sam Houston will be a Southland series with Northwestern State on Saturday and Sunday, March 26 and 27.
