Designated hitter Chris Andreas went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, blasting double and his seventh home run of the year to lead Sam Houston to an 9-0 non-conference baseball victory over the Houston Cougars Tuesday night at Don Sanders Stadium.

Sam Houston (23-12) now has won six of its last eight games. The Kats also avenged a 9-3 road loss to Houston (17-18) on March 15.

Bearkat pitchers Cody Dickson, Michael Oros, Paul Spinn and Michael Hilliard combined to blank the Cougars for Sam Houston's fifth shutout of the season. SHSU out-hit UH 11-6.

The Bearkats jumped on starting pitcher Cody Morehouse in the bottom of the second inning, scoring four runs on four hits.

Third baseman Kevin Miller started things with a one-out single to left field. After a walk by left fielder Kyle Singleton, catcher John Hale, right fielder Greg Olson and second baseman Ryan Mooney combined for consecutive RBI singles. Designated hit Chris Andreas brought in the fourth run with a sacrifice fly to left field.

The Bearkats picked up three more runs in the fifth as Andreas picked up his seventh home run of the season with a solo shot to right and first baseman Daniel Nottebart and Singleton each had RBI singles to put the Kats up 7-0.

Andreas doubled to right center for a third RBI in the sixth inning. Mooney added a solo home run to left field in the eighth. The homer was the senior's first of the season.

Sam Houston returns to Southland Conference action as the Kats play host to Lamar in a weekend series. Game times at Don Sanders Stadium versus the Cardinals are 6:30 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
