
Kats medal at Texas Relays

The Bearkat senior from College Station took first place in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 221 feet, one inch (67.38 meters).
Matt Johnson, SHSU junior from Port Neches-Groves, also medaled, finishing third in the men's decathlon.
Jennie Sewell was the first Bearkat to win an event at the Texas Relays, one of the premier track and field events in the nation each year. Sewell won gold in the women's pole vault in 2007
Cralle out-distanced a field of 19 finalists that included defending NCAA champion Walter Henning of LSU. Cralle made his winning toss on his final attempt.
Dimitrios Fylladitakis of UTEP was the runner-up, nearly six feet behind Cralle. Fylladitakis threw 215 feet, eight inches. Michael Lauro of LSU (210' 6"), Robert Keogh of Temple (208' 4") and Henning (207' 7") finished third through fifth, respectively.
Cralle's throw is the third longest by a Sam Houston State track and field athlete in university competition. Cralle has thrown 224 feet and 223 feet, four inches in his first two meets outdoors this spring.
Johnson totaled a Sam Houston school record 7,686 points for his Texas Relays medal. John Cordes set the old Bearkat mark of 7,312 points at the 1999 Southland Conference championships.
Michael Morrison of California won the decathlon with a point total of 7,921.
Johnson's won the decathlon long jump with a leap of 24 feet, 3.75 inches and was the runner-up in the decathlon 100 meters with a time of 10.58.
Other top performances for the Bearkats during Wednesday and Thursday's competition at the Texas Relays included an eighth place finish by Roger Rueweller in the men's 800 meter run (1:54.92)and a runner-up finish by Alyssa Dooley in the women's 1500 meter run B section (4:40.71).
Sam Houston's 4x100 meter women's relay of Sabrina Starr, Jessica Fisher, Kristian Austin and Lyvia Foreman placed 26th with a time of 47.30 seconds. The 1600 sprint medley relay of Kristian Austin, Jessica Fisher, Monika May, Alyssa Dooley was 4th (3:58.67)
In the shot put (Section B) Jenny Zoch placed 5th (47' 8.5") and Christina Webb 14th (42' 10.75). Webb was 12th in the discus (section B) with a throw of 135' 8"
Ambra McCuin placed 9th in the triple jump (40' 0"). The 4x400 relay of Simbi George, Tonicia Wimberly, Ayanna Magee and Lygia Foreman finished 18th (3:44.22). Dakota Stewart was 29th in the 400 meter hurdles with mark of 1:03.11.
