Lake Charles, La. - Senior right hander Brandon Kimbrel pitched his second consecutive complete game to lead Sam Houston to a 6-1 Southland Conference baseball victory over McNeese State Saturday afternoon.
The win evens the weekend series between the Cowboys and the Bearkats at one victory apiece. The series will be decided by the third game at 1 p.m. Sunday at Cowboy Diamon.
Kimbrel (4-1) spread seven hits over nine innings, striking out six Cowboys. McNeese (17-16, 7-7) scored their only run on a solo home run by catcher Shea Daly in the fifth inning.
Sam Houston (21-12, 7-7) out hit the Cowboys 10 to seven as both shortstop Braeden Riley and outfielder Mark Hudson went 2-for-4.
Hudson led off a four-run second inning with a double. First baseman Daniel Nottebart brought in the first run with a single. Outfielders Kyle Singleton added a two-run single and Greg Olson brought in the fourth run with another single.
Chris Andreas blasted his sixth home run of the season in the fourth inning to score the Bearkats' final two runs.
Matt Click (2-4) was the losing pitcher for McNeese State.
Following the McNeese State series, the Bearkats will return home to Don Sanders Stadium to play host to the University of Houston at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday night.
