Gilberto Clavell 2011 MVP

Clavell, a senior from Mayaquez, Puerto Rico, became the third Bearkat to earn NCAA Division I All-America and Southland Conference men's basketball "Player of the Year" honors this season.
He was both a first team all-conference selection and became the first Sam Houston player to earn all-Southland tournament honors two years in a row. Gilberto scored 603 point this year and is the only junior college transfer in Bearkat history to score more than 1,000 career points.
Clavell was one of 14 athletes recognized as "Most Valuable" for the 2010-11 at the banquet.
The Most Valuable awards for 2010-11 by sport were Jenny Pence (soccer), Alyssa Dooley (women's cross country), Patrick Krol (men's cross country), Kaylee Hawkins and Carli Kolbe (volleyball), Tim Flanders (football), Morgan Davis (women's indoor track and field), Matt Johnson (men's indoor track and field), Britni Martin and Sequeena Thomas (women's basketball), Gilberto Clavell (men's basketball), Dayna Galganski (bowling), Nadia Dubyanskaya (tennis) and Hailey Wiginton (softball).
