Cralle Russell Jordan Honored

Cralle also was the recipient of the 2011 Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Student-Athlete of the year aware, marking the first time in conference history that a student-athlete has swept the men's indoor and outdoor awards in the same academic year.
A native of College Station, Cralle is a three-time Southland Conference hammer champion, winning the 2011 conference championships with a throw of 206 feet, eight inches.
The political science major with a 3.36 overall GPA competed in the NCAA outdoor track and field championships where he earned first-team All-American honors with a seventh-place finish (218-1).
Cralle won the outdoor NCAA West Regional hammer championship, the Texas Relays hammer throw and was the conference indoor weight throw champion (67-3.5). His indoor mark was a school and league record. Along with becoming a Student-Athlete of the Year in both outdoor and indoor track, Cralle is also a three-time Academic All-Southland selection.
Joining Cralle as a 2011 Academic All-Southland men's track and field selection are Henry Jordan and Jason Russell.
Henry, a junior management major from Conroe, holds a 3.59 GPA. He placed seventh at the Southland Conference in the long jump with a leap of 23 feet, 3.25 inches and was 14th outdoors in the same event with a mark of 22 feet, 1.5 inches.
Russell, a senior kinesiology major from Kerens, has a 3.81 overall GPA. He earned All-Southland honors indoors with a runner-up finish in the men's weight throw, placing behind Cralle with a mark of 60 feet, 6.75 inches that also bettered the conference meet record.
The Southland Conference awards committee, which consists of one administrator from each of the 12 member schools, voted for the student-athlete of the year. The award is presented to the student-athlete who achieves excellence in both academics and athletics. All nominees shall have earned at least a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale, and demonstrated achievement in athletics for at least two years at the nominating institution.
The Academic All-Southland team are voted on by the head coaches, sports information directors and academic/compliance administrators from each Southland university. Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competition to qualify for the all-academic squad.
