Sam Houston State signee Ryan O'Hearn has earned one of the highest honors for a high school baseball player. The senior from Frisco Wakeland High School was named a second team All-American by Baseball America.
O'Hearn, who was named the District 9-4A offensive player of the year this season, batted .505, with 15 home runs, 55 RBI and 1.103 slugging percentage.
O'Hearn is one of six players from the state of Texas to make one of the three All-American teams named by Baseball America.
This season he was also a Texas High School Coaches Association First-Team All-State pick while helping lead his Wakeland Team to the Class 4A Regional Semifinals.
O'Hearn was one of eight players to sign with the Bearkats during the Fall signing period.
The three All-America teams were selected by staff members of Baseball America after soliciting nominations from scouts and coaches all over the country. Statistics and their relation to competition level play the biggest role in the decisions.
