The Bearkats are participating in the Tulsa Golden Hurricane Invitational. Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin will both represent the Southland Conference in the event. The Kats and the Jacks flip opponents Friday and Sunday.
Sam Houston faces Oral Roberts at 5 p.m. Friday then takes on Tulsa Sunday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. SFA meets the Golden Hurricane Friday and battles ORU Sunday afternoon.
Sam Houston opened the 2011 schedule with a 3-0 road loss at Baylor Friday then bounced back to defeat Houston Baptist 2-1 Sunday night.
"It was good to see how the team responded to the loss at Baylor by coming back and winning Sunday," SHSU head coach Tom Brown said. "Our goal is to keep improving this weekend.
Tulsa brings a 1-0 record into the tournament, defeating Oral Roberts 1-0 in the Golden Hurricane's season opener. ORU also battled to a 2-2 tie with North Texas to enter this weekend with a loss and a tie on their record.
Freshman Jessica Toms and sophomore Tricia Mallory accounted for Sam Houston's goals in the 2-1 victory over Houston Baptist Sunday.
Following the Tulsa tournament, Sam Houston will play road matches at Grambling State, Rice and North Texas. Next home game for the Bearkats is Sunday, Sept. 11 against Texas Southern.
