UTA brings a five-game winning streak into the contest after an 85-55 victory Saturday over Nicholls State. The five consecutive victories represent the program's longest since a five-game run during the 2009-10 season.
Sam Houston fell to 2012 Southland Conference West Division favorite UTSA 62-60 on a Roadrunner basket with 1.9 seconds to play.
Konner Tucker leads Sam Houston with 11.7 points per game. Steven Werner adds 10.4 points and 5.6 rebounds per contest.
Marcus James, the only returning letterman in the Kat starting lineup, contributes 9.2 points and leads the squad with 7.1 rebounds per game.
The Mavericks are 6-1 at home this season, and 49-14 since the start of the 2007-08 season. The Mavericks only have one game left at Texas Hall after facing Sam Houston, with Stephen F. Austin visiting on Feb. 21. The Mavericks make their debut at the College Park Center on Feb. 1 against Southland rival UTSA.
LaMarcus Reed leads the Mavericks in scoring at 14.2 points per game and has scored in double figures 12 times, while Bo Ingram has averaged over 14.2 points a contest over the last six.
UTA and Sam Houston are meeting for the 56th time with the Bearkats holding a 34-21 all-time edge and a 14-13 record in games played in Arlington.
Sam Houston has won the last two meetings, both coming last season. UTA last beat Sam Houston in Arlington, 95-85, on Feb. 28, 2009.
