
Willie Fritz to speak in Houston Jan. 25

Fritz will talk about the Bearkats recent playoff run as well as the role that sportsmanship plays in athletics.
Sponsored by the Touchdown Club of Houston, the Sportsmanship Luncheon awards are voted on by the referees who call high school games in Greater Houston, the Texas Association of Sports Officials, Houston football chapter.
The referees rate each team after each game on actions of the coaches, actions of the layers, actions of the fans and parents, and respect for the American flag.
After directing Sam Houston State to a 14-1 season, the Southland Conference championship and a berth in the NCAA Division I National Championship football game, Fritz has been named as American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) "Coach of the Year." He also has been award "FCS National Coach of the Year" honors by American Football Monthly and was named as Southland Conference "Coach of the Year" and AFCA Regional "Coach of the Year."
Tickets are $45 each. Tables are 10 seats each, and can be purchased for $450 (regular table), $500 (bronze table sponsorship), $1,000 (silver table sponsorship) and $1,500 (gold table sponsorship). The Touchdown Club of Houstonhas awarded about $180,000 in scholarships to almost 250 Greater Houston kids in the past 13 years. The organization has worked with HISD and the Houston Texans to help more than 200 high school football players land about $30 million in Division II, Division III and NAIA scholarships through the Senior Showcase in the last three years.
