Record crowd sees 78-50 victory

Huntsville - Sequeena Thomas scored 18 points and pulled down 17 rebounds to lead Sam Houston State to a 78-50 non-conference women's basketball victory over Texas A&M-Commerce Friday afternoon.

The contest was played before an SHSU women's basketball record crowd of 3,862 on "Pack the House" Day at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum when elementary school children from the Huntsville area attend by the busload.

The 18 points and 17 rebounds for Thomas represent her 33rd career double figure points and rebounds performances as a Bearkat, a Sam Houston school record.

Britni Martin added 17 points and Chanice Smith scored 10 for SHSU as the Bearkat women upped their season record to 2-3.

A&M-Commerce was led by Amber Carver with 10 point and six rebounds.

Sam Houston trailed only once, 2-0 just 19 seconds into the game. The Bearkats jumped out to an 28-18 halftime lead and were in front by as many as 31 points in the second period.

With Thomas attacking the boards, Sam Houston out-rebounded the Lions 50 to 32. The Bearkats scored 20 points off A&M-Commerce's 23 turnovers.
