The Kats will host Prairie View A&M in a 4 p.m. doubleheader Wednesday.
Sam Houston is looking to earn its first victory of the season. The Bearkats have fallen to three nationally-ranked opponents (No. 15 Texas A&M, No. 20 Houston and No. 22 Oklahoma State). North Texas, Missouri State and Wichita State are responsible for the other defeats.
Still, several Kats have been performing well.
Junior first baseman Kim Damian leads the team with a .393 batting average that includes 11 hits in 28 at bats. Damian has produced a double, a triple, two home runs and four RBIs.
Junior center fielder Tori Benavidez is hitting .370 and has reached base safely in all eight of the Bearkats' contests.
Senior right-hander Tomi Garrison has led the team in the pitching circle, throwing 25 of the team's 49 innings. She has totaled 18 strike outs.
Sophomore Shelby Lancaster was worked 17.2 innings for Sam Houston in the circle.
Following the Prairie View doubleheader Wednesday, the Bearkats will take a week off before playing host to No. 15 Texas A&M at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29.
Sam Houston will travel to Austin for a weekend series at the University of Texas March 2-4 and play a doubleheader at Houston Baptist March 7 before opening the Southland Conference schedule with Northwestern State Friday and Saturday, March 9-10.
