Sam Houston State won three of their five matches in a quadrangular match hosted by Monmouth University in New Jesey
In five four-game Baker Quad matches Friday, Sam Houston split with No. 16 Adelphi, winning 699-684 and falling 757-731, lost to No. 18 Monmouth 702-676 and defeated No. 20 Saint Peters twice 698-616 and 757-736.
"Today was kind of a crazy day," Sam Houston head coach Brad Hagen said. "The lanes played beyond tight but we did a pretty good job at managing the afternoon. Unfortunately when we didn't it cost us. It is what it is and we have to move on from it. We have the heart and talent on this team to do big things we just have to stay true to ourselves and stay confident in our decisions. We do that everything will be just fine."
The Bearkats begin competition in the two-day ECAC Championships hosted by Monmouth.
Five of the nine teams in the Monmouth Tournament are ranked. New Jersey City is No. 12, Delaware State No. 13, Adelphi No. 16 and host Monmouth stands No. 18. The Bearkats, who stand No. 9 in both the NTCA coaches and media rankings, are the top rated squad in the competition.
The tournament will be play at the King Pin Lanes in Egg Harbor Township. Sam Houston State brings a 55-29 record into the tournament.
Following the trip to New Jersey, the Bearkats will wrap up regular season play with the Music City Classic in Memphis March 16-18.
The NCAA Women's Bowling Championship will be held April 12-14 in Cleveland. Sam Houston State was the first inaugural program to earn a berth in the event when the Bearkats placed seventh in the tournament last year.
