
Volleyball downs Islanders in three

Led by Deveney Wells-Gibson and Kendall Cleveland, the Sam Houston State volleyball team picked up its second Southland Conference victory of the season with a three-set road win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday afternoon.
The Bearkats won 25-14 26-24 25-11 to up their season mark to 6-9 and even themselves in league play at 2-2.
Wells-Gibson and Cleveland both led the match with 11 kills apiece. Kaylee Hawkins added seven kills.
The key to the victory came in the second set. Down 16-8, the Kats rallied to win 18 of the final 26 points for a 26-24 set victory. Sam Houston cruised through the third set to clinch the win.
Tayler Gray assisted on 24 of SHSU's 36 kills. Camille Alfaro led the back row with 17 digs while Gray added 15.
Sam Houston limited the Islanders to just 34 points while scoring 59.
