Houston - Sequeena Thomas and Britni Martin both kept their double figure scoring streaks alive as the pair led the Sam Houston women's basketball team to a 75-58 victory over Houston Baptist Wednesday night.
The contest ended a six-game road streak for the Bearkats as the SHSU women completed their non-conference schedule with a 4-8 record.
Thomas led the Kats with 23 points and seven rebounds, the senior forward's ninth game in a row with double figure scoring. Chanice Smith added 15 points, Martin 12 and Jasmine Johnson 11. Martin has scored in double figures in each of Sam Houston's 12 games this season.
A team that has averaged 21 three-point shots per game, Sam Houston cut down their attempts from beyond the arc but improved their efficiency. The Kats hit seven of 12 treys for a season best 58 percentage.
Houston Baptist, now 3-11, took an early 10-4 lead to open the game. Kayshawn Clavelle put Sam Houston in the lead for the first time, 17-15 with 8:33 left in the first half.
Sam Houston led 34-23 at intermission and out-scored the Huskies 41-35 in the second period.
Shanice Steenholdt led HBU with 25 points and 10 rebounds.
The Sam Houston women will open Southland Conference play Friday at 1 p.m. when the Bearkats host A&M-Corpus Christi at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
