More Top Times Posted at Houston Indoor Meet

A victory by Brian Helaire in the 400 meter dash and a runner-up finish in the weight throw by Brek Christensen highlighted action for the Sam Houston men's track and field team Friday and Saturday at the Howie Ryan Invitational hosted by the University of Houston.

Helaire won the 400 meters with a time of 48.86. Trey Jones placed fourth in the event with a 50.12 clocking. Christensen's weight throw mark of 60 feet, 1 inch earned him his second place medal.

Healaire and Jones also were part of the Bearkat 4x400 relay that placed fifth with a time of 3:21.75. Jarrick Wright and Rodney Jones ran the second and third legs, respectively.

Charles White placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 49 feet, 0.75 inches. Palo Ponce was fifth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:31.77. Matthew Viverette (8.04) and Matthew Johnson (8.06) posted the top two collegiate times in the semifinals of the 60 meter hurdles.

Shelbie Zotyka posted a third place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 12 feet, 7.5 inches to highlight action for the Bearkat women in the meet.

Alyssa Dooley, Taylor Sanders, Tonicia Wimberley and Nicole Aponte teamed to place fourth in the women's distance medley relay with a time of 12:19.37.

Lygia Foreman was fourth in the 400 meters with a 57.55 clocking. Ana Moreno placed fifth in the 5000 meters with a mark of 18:29.15.
