Kats Close Season on the Road

The Sam Houston State women's soccer team will hit the road for the final two games of the 2013 regular season. The Bearkats (7-9-1, 5-5 SLC) need one win to solidify a spot in the Southland Tournament and two wins will lock them into the No. 4 seed.
Friday night's opponent is Houston Baptist (5-11-1, 4-6 SLC) while Sunday the Bearkats will play at Nicholls (11-5-1, 5-5 SLC), who they are tied with in the league standings.
The Huskies are coming off of a 4-0 drubbing of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at home last Sunday. HBU dropped their Friday night game to Nicholls, 1-0, in Houston.
Bearkat midfielder Mariah Titus leads the team with seven total goals and four in Southland play. Senior Tricia Mallory and freshman Shannon Shields have each scored four goals. Shelby McDaniel has the team lead with four assists.
The Colonels have the conference's top scorer, Spencer Valdespino, who has scored 16 goals this season. Valdespino has buried eight in league play and added three assists.
The Southland Tournament is in Lake Charles, La. with first-round games scheduled for Thurs., Nov. 7 and the Championship game Sun., Nov. 10. The No. 3 seed will play the No. 6 seed and the No. 4 will play the No. 5 on the first day.
