Tricia Mallory Named All-Tournament

LAKE CHARLES, La. -- Senior midfielder-turned-defender Tricia Mallory was named to the Southland Conference Soccer All-Tournament team after leading Sam Houston State to the tournament semifinals.
Mallory started the season as the Bearkats' second all-time leading scorer after playing as a forward for three years. She made the move into the midfield at the start of the season and was forced to play in defense at the end of the year due to injuries.
“I think Tricia has just been awesome. We moved her from being a forward to a midfielder this year and then due to the two injuries at center back we've had to move her there,” said head coach Tom Brown. “She's our only senior so clearly she's our most experienced player. She just did her job, she wasn't overly vocal back there but I thought (against Nicholls) she was a warrior and did a great job against their best player.”
The Klein High School product was tasked with defending the Southland's Player of the Year, Spencer Valdespino, in the first round of the conference tournament Thursday night.
Mallory and the Kat defense managed to shut out the Nicholls Colonels on their way to a 1-0 win.
The Bearkats weren't as fortunate Friday as they fell to the No. 1 seed SFA Lumberjacks, 2-1.
