Angela Beadle and Jasmine Johnson each scored 12 points to lead Sam Houston as the Bearkat women's basketball team fell to TCU 78-46 Friday evening at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum in Fort Worth.
The contest marked the Kats' final non-conference contest. The Sam Houston women end pre-conference play with a 5-6 record. TCU is 8-3 for the year.
The Horned Frogs never trailed. After TCU jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the first five minutes, the closest the Bearkats could cut the margin was nine points, 25-14. TCU led 38-20 at intermission.
Sam Houston outscored TCU 10-8 in the first seven minutes of the second period to cut the Horned Frog lead to 16, 46-30 after a Nyha Carter free throw. TCU bounced back, outscoring Sam Houston 40-26 in the second half.
Beadle led Sam Houston with six rebounds.
Zahna Medley led both teams with 18 points.
TCU hit 29-of-57 shots from the field (51 percent) including four three-point shots. The Bearkats were 13-of-53 from the field (25 percent), sinking 3-of-17 from beyond the arc.
Sam Houston begins Southland Conference action on Thursday, Jan. 2, with a road trip to NorthwesternState. The Bearkat women return home to Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum Thursday, Jan. 9 to play host to McNeeseState.
