The Bearkats stand 2-4 after an 8-0 loss to nationally-ranked Texas A&M Wednesday afternoon. Sam Houston's victories came over Illinois State and No. 22 Baylor at last weekend's tournament in Waco.
Sam Houston's schedule in Hattiesburg calls for the Bearkats to place Jacksonville State at 2:30 p.m. and Southern Mississippi at 7:30 p.m. Friday; JSU at 12 noon and USM at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and a final game with Jacksonville State Sunday at 10 a.m.
Center fielder Tori Benavidez leads Sam Houston with a .350 batting average. Hillary Adams is hitting .294.
Shelby Lancaster, Meme Quinn and Haley Baros have been handling the majority of the duties in the pitching circle.
Sam Houston is the preseason pick of the league's head coaches to win the 2013 Southland Conference softball race. The Bearkats were the runners-up in both the regular season standings and the league post-season tournament last year.
