
Johnson & Foreman Earn Southland Weekly Honor

Sam Houston State's Matt Johnson and Lygia Foreman have been named as the Southland Conference men's and women's track and field “athletes of the week” for their performances last weekend.
Johnson dominated the decathlon at the Sam Houston Quad Meet in Huntsville. The senior from Port Neches / Groves H.S. won seven of the 10 events on his way to racking up 7,235 points. Johnson won the 100-meter dash, 110-meter hurdles, long jump, shot put, discus, pole vault and javelin.
Foreman won an individual title in the 400-meter dash and ran a leg of on the winning 4x400 relay team in the same meet Saturday.
The sophomore from Fort Worth / Eastern Hills H.S. paced the field in the 400 with a time of 54.74 seconds. Foreman joined three other Bearkats to win the 4x400 relay in a time of 3:15.63 before finishing second in the 4x100 relay with a time of 41.58.
Next action for the Bearkat men's and women's track and field teams will be the McNeese State Cowboy Invitational in Lake Charles, La., this weekend.
