
Women In Second After 2 Days At Southland

Ten Sam Houston State women's athletes have scored points for the Bearkats in the first two days of action at the Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships being hosted by McNeese State in Lake Charles, La.
The Bearkat women currently stand in second place with 40 points. Stephen F. Austin leads with 51.
The running finals will be held Sunday evening and field events will wrap up action during Sunday afternoon competition.
In the field events for Sam Houston, Kaylynne Wright (18' 9.25”) and Lauren Nwegbo (18' 3.25”) placed fourth and eighth, respectively, in the long jump.
Jenny Zoch placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 45' 11.75”
Allyson Pettit (4,290 points), Frances Porter (3,992) and Nicole Jenrette (3,966) all scored in the women's heptathlon with fourth, fifth and seventh place finishes.
Elizabeth Lyssy (134' 7”) and Shauni Prihoda (129' 9”) were sixth and eighth, respectively in the javelin.
On Friday's opening day, Adrienne Quillin won the hammer championship with a throw of 181' 5”. Ashley Jenkins (167' 1”) and Jenny Zoch (159' 11”) also scored with sixth and eighth place finishes, respectively.
Sam Houston State had several athletes qualify for spots in Sunday's running event finals.
Danielle Demas led all qualifiers for the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 13.97. Winnie Ileso was right behind her with a third place qualifying mark of 14.16
Lygia Foreman (54.60) was the number two qualifier in the 400 meters with Jordan Grady placing fourth with a 55.08 mark.
Ruth Amaku had the second fastest qualifying time in the 400 meter hurdles with a 1:01.61 clocking.
