Tori Benavidez Named All Central Region

Tori Benavidez, center fielder from Sam Houston State University, has been named to the 2013 National Fastpitch Coaches' Association Division I All-Central Region team.
Twenty-seven players from the central region were selected to the NFCA squad. Benavidez is the only player from the Southland Conference to be named to the central region team.
The senior from Midlothian was named Southland “Player of the Year” and “Hitter of the Year” and was a first-team all-league selection.
Benavidez also was selected to the Southland all-tournament team where the Bearkats were runners-up after finishing third during the league's regular season.
A total of 263 players from 137 different teams across the nation were selected to the 2013 NFCA Division I All-Region teams.
The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each respective region, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to one of three 2013 NFCA Division I All-American teams. In addition, conference pitchers and players of the year not selected to the regional teams were added for All-America consideration.
The leading hitter for Sam Houston this year, Benavidez produced Sam Houston's second highest single season batting average in school history with a mark of .406..
Benavidez also set season records for most at bats (202) and hits (82) and produced the second best single season total of runs scored (51).
Benavidez completed her Bearkat career with a four-year batting average of .358, the second highest in in school history.
