Shelbie Zotyka 28th at NCAA West Preliminary

Action for the 2013 Bearkat women's outdoor track and field season concluded late Friday as Sam Houston's Shelbie Zotyka placed 28th in the women's pole vault with a mark of 12 feet 2 inches.
Zotyka was the lone entry for the Kats in the women's division at the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Austin.
For the Sam Houston men, Matt Johnson and Matthew Viverette both ran 14.69 in the 110 meter hurdles to tie for 37th place in the Bearkats' first action Friday at the NCAA West Preliminary round in Austin.
Due to rain and lightning, day two of the NCAA West Preliminary Round was delayed from 2 p.m. until the early evening. The men's hammer was postponed to 10 a.m. Saturday.
After the delay Jarrick Wright placed 24th in the quarterfinals of the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.79. Wright earned his spot in the quarterfinals Thursday by finishing second in his heat with a 10.47 seconds clocking. The mark was the 12th best in the first round.
One other event awaits for the Bearkats as Karique Stephen and Charles White compete in the triple jump Saturday at 6 p.m.
